Taboo Box

Taboo Box

A boundary must not be regarded as a limit to be transgressed but to be traversed.
(Gilles Deleuze)

Dream stories swirl around a layered narrative about betrayal amidst the scraping sounds of someone inside a claustrophobic space—a huge cardboard box where a disembodied voice stutters and hints at jealousy and tacit assumptions bounce off the sides. A droning twang reflects a dreamer’s suspenseful soundtrack. Flesh washes off in a torrential grey rain whooshing down a desert river bed. Another dreams of the delicious slap across the face of her beloved who has crossed a boundary.

Taboo Box was presented as part of the artist’s curated Sound Lounge at Dinnerware Gallery, a downtown Tucson art space in 2004. Part of a 20-sound artist month-long installation and a 10-artist performance night. The audio piece was re-broadcast in numerous installations and on-air platforms.
